A download manager that Claude can operate.
Anabranch is a free, open-source download manager for Windows. It splits each file across parallel connections, resumes after interruptions and runs queues on a schedule. Its MCP server lets Claude, or any other MCP client, queue, schedule and monitor downloads for you.
Version 1.3.0 · Installer about 108 MB · Windows (64-bit) · Updates itself · Free and open source (MIT) · anabranch.draran.online
Anabranch ships with an MCP server. Once it is added to Claude Desktop (one block of configuration, shown in the app under Options → MCP / AI), the assistant can check links, queue files, set connections, manage the scheduler and report progress.
Satellite scenes, elevation models and climate archives arrive as large files on FTP servers and data portals. Anabranch keeps those downloads going: many connections, resume after a dropped line or a restart, logins for protected portals, and queues that run overnight.
These formats are in the browser extension's capture list by default:
.txt file with one link per line, or use Download all links on a portal's results page. Each file is split into byte ranges that download in parallel (8 by default). A connection that finishes early takes over half of the largest remaining range, so all stay busy to the end.
ftp:// and ftps:// links download over several connections and resume after a break. When a server limits connections, the download continues with the ones it was given.
Downloads continue from their saved offsets after a dropped connection or a restart of the computer.
HLS and DASH streams download in parallel and are merged into one MP4 with FFmpeg; AES-128 HLS is decrypted. Live and DRM-protected streams are refused.
For Chrome, Edge and Firefox. It hands chosen file types to the app and lists the streams a page plays. Each browser pairs with its own token.
YouTube and similar pages download through yt-dlp, which the app installs in one click, for videos you have the right to save.
One global limit across all connections, with presets in the status bar, and a set number of downloads at once. Files are sorted into folders by type.
Follows Windows, with six accent colours, a command palette (Ctrl+K) and keyboard shortcuts.
The installed app checks for new versions and updates itself, so you stay on the latest release.

Anabranch does the same with your files: each one splits into parallel connections that join again into a single file.
